Title: Paralegal/Legal Assistant

Position Description:

The Paralegal position will be working under the company’s in-house counsel and will assist with a wide range of assignments and tasks that commonly arise when actively litigating. The ideal candidate will be able to manage a large volume of litigation from beginning to end. The Paralegal should be a responsible and proactive professional willing to take a leading role in supporting the office’s dynamic litigation practice group.

Major Areas of Responsibility:

  • Drafting and filing legal pleadings at all stages of civil litigation
  • Assists in drafting, proofreading and editing complaints and default final judgments
  • Working with external process servers across all 50 states
  • Managing all aspects of litigation case management including calendaring, tracking and ensuring timely completion of deadlines
  • Organize documents and prepare document productions
  • Assists in trial preparations where needed
  • Researches and analyzes law sources such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and legal codes
  • Prepares legal documents such as briefs, pleadings, appeals, contracts, closing papers and binders, deeds, and trust instruments for review, approval, and use by General Counsel
  • Prepares affidavits of documents and maintains document file
  • Acts as librarian, keeping and monitoring legal volumes and ensuring legal volumes are up-to-date

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to aptly assess potential legal risks or exposure
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize assignments in order to meet various deadlines
  • Must exercise sound judgment and appropriately consult with or seek attorney review when necessary
  • Ability to comprehend the significance of an array of legal documents
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience drafting legal documents
  • Must be proficient in MS Office
  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality

Education and Experience:

3-5 years of related experience and/or training Associate’s degree and Paralegal Cert Training a plus but not required Previous garnishment experience a plus Previous experience working as a civil litigation assistant, whether in-house or at a law firm is preferred Previous experience within the Miami Dade, State of Florida and Federal Court systems is a plus

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of the position are typical of those found in a traditional office environment. Employee will regularly be required to talk and/or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.
